Tuesday, March 23, 2021—COVID-19 has pushed millions out of the workforce—mostly women. Paid family and medical leave is one tool to bring them back and keep the economy moving.
In a powerful statement of support for working families across the country, Enspira and over 175 brands and business leaders signed onto an open letter to Congress, calling for a public policy solution for paid family and medical leave.
In a recent report, Paid Leave and the Pandemic, employers reported that paid leave policies ensure greater employee morale and workplace satisfaction, reduce rates of attrition and turnover, and support recruitment. Paid leave programs help employees feel valued by their employer and able to effectively care for themselves and family. Evidence is also mounting that paid leave is critical to helping stem the tide of women leaving the workforce and addressing gender and racial inequity in the workplace.
Businesses and business leaders are reinforcing their commitment to equity and urging Congress to pass economic recovery legislation extending comprehensive paid family and medical leave for all working people—especially women, people of color, and low-wage working people who disproportionately lack access to paid leave.
If you are a business owner that wants to join the call to pass national paid leave as a part of the economic recovery, or if you’re an employee who wants to learn more about how to leverage your voice at work and in your community, PL+US (Paid Leave for the United States) has a number of ways for you to engage.
PL+US is the national campaign to win paid family and medical leave by 2022. The organization in partnership with employees, employers, consumers, and investors has won paid family leave for nearly 8 million at companies like Walmart, Starbucks, CVS and more.
